Components of a Healthy Lifestyle

A healthy lifestyle does not just involve a healthy diet as most people imagine. There are other factors that are essential as well without which a healthy lifestyle is not complete as well. Here are the things that really constitute a healthy lifestyle:

1.) Healthy Diet

Our bodies can be made or broken with the foods we decide to eat.
Diet is very important not just for weight loss but for proper nutrition as well.
A healthy diet is a balanced diet. A balanced diet is a sum of food eaten by a person that contains the right proportions of every type of food. Carbohydrates, proteins and vitamins all have a role to play in achieving the required amount of nutrition for your body.
When one type of food is in excess then your diet is unbalanced, when it is in deficiency, then the diet is unbalanced as well. You should not neglect any type of food for excuses such as weight loss. In such situations, take loss proportions.

2.) Physical Exercise

Exercises are important to make your body stronger, for this reason support your spirit and keeping your mind in vigor. Furthermore, it helps reduce the risks of suffering from certain conditions while still making you feel less tired.

3.) Having Enough Sleep

Sleep is important to give your body and mind some rest. Enough sleep keeps you psychologically fit and mentally aware. Lack of enough sleeps results in agitation and depression.
It isย important to realize, the exact amount of sleep may vary from person to person, the recommendation for sleep duration for adults, from ages 18 – 64 years, is 7- 9 hours.

4.) Stress Management

Stress can be very detrimental to your health. It affects your mental health, depriving you of the psychological awareness that you need in your daily activities. It is important to keep your emotions in check because an emotional imbalance does not just affect your mental health but your physical health as well. With this in mind, stress can be managed through physical exercise or through social support and healthy relationships.

5.) Personal Hygiene

Hygiene is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle as well. The dirtier you are, the higher the risk of contracting diseases. The vice versa is also true.

6.) Avoiding Addictions

Addictions whether related to your physical body such as drugs or habitual addictions like gambling take a toll on your healthy. It is impossible to be an addict and to be healthy simultaneously. One must suffer and in most cases, it will be your health.

To sum up…

A healthy lifestyle increases your life span and keeps you away from so-called lifestyle diseases.
So what is a healthy lifestyle?
Every factor has a role to play in ensuring that you live a healthy lifestyle, from your diet to your social relationships.

  1. Hi Thomas,

  4. Really hitting home on that sleep one. I lived off of two hours of sleep for a bit. Not so great. It puts you in such a bad spot.
You can’t think straight or drive well. You have just so much better of a time when you get at least six to ten hours.

    Thanks, this was helpful!

    1. You’re right! Lack of sleep can cause lack of alertness (which can lead to accidence), memory problems, mood change and for the long term it can cause serious health problems like heart problems, obesity and depression.
The recommended amount of sleep according to “National Sleep Foundation,” for adults ages 18-64 7-9 hours.

  5. I would love to live a healthier lifestyle. One of the issues I have is the more tired I am, the more I eat. However, I am also an insomineatic. (II can’t fall asleep properly and when I do I can’t stay asleep). How can I fix this so that I can live a healthier lifetyle?

    1. First I just want to start by saying that Iโ€™m not a doctor and everything here is an advice only.
      With that said,
There are both medication and non medication treatments for Insomnia. You may need to try different treatments before you find the one that works for you, talk to your doctor before.
One of the ways to treat insomnia is with exercise (which is also a recommended way to achieve a healthier lifestyle), although there are not a lot of studies on Insomnia & exercise, the studies that have been preformed say that aerobic exercise can help reduce insomnia. Also it’s a process, it takes time to see results, like every other good thing ๐Ÿ˜‰ ,it doesn’t just happen overnight.
The recommended amount of exercises, by the “National Heart Lung and Blood Institute,” is at least 150 minutes a week”, which means 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
I hope this helped, Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.
      Thanks for you comment

      Thanks for your comment!

  8. You are so right. A healthy diet is very important, but most people overlook the other stuff. Keep spreading the word. Awesome work! You rock Emma!

  9. I agree with you. We have to have a well-balanced life in all areas of our lives. Giving one part of ourselves 100%, while neglecting the other half, will cause issues later on. We should make sure we have that balance of putting the right things into our bodies, exercise regularly, taking care of our mental state, getting enough rest, etc. for a healthier lifestyle.
